The till on a tablet: charging at the counter with no mouse and no keyboard

Updated 2026-09-12 · 4 min read

There's a difference between charging and closing the till. Closing is done at night, calmly, on the dashboard screen. Charging is done with someone in front of you who already has their card in hand, and there a drop-down menu or a text field that pops up the system keyboard is half a minute that feels long.

That's why ClaudIA's till has two faces. The dashboard one, with everything: opening, charging appointments from the calendar, packages, refunds, closing. And counter mode: the same till, drawn for a tablet.

What it is, exactly

A full-size screen, no side menu, with what you need to charge and nothing else:

It opens from the Till, via the «Counter mode» link, and can be put on the tablet's home screen: on Android, «Add to home screen»; on iPad, «Share → Add to Home Screen». From then on it opens directly, full screen, like an app.

There's nothing to buy

It's the question we get asked most, so here it is plainly: you don't need a POS terminal. Counter mode runs from the browser on any Android tablet or iPad, on a desktop touchscreen and on Android terminals with a built-in printer. A cheap ten-inch tablet will do.

And you don't need a special printer either. The receipt prints on any printer the device has installed, receipt printers included: it's the same path you use to print any page. On Windows or Mac, whichever shows up when you print; on Android, a Bluetooth thermal printer with the RawBT app as a bridge; on iPad, any printer with AirPrint. The paper comes out at the width you choose in Settings, 58 or 80 mm.

Any tablet, and any printer you already have installed. The tablet is the POS.

On a counter machine running Windows or ChromeOS there's one more setting: open the browser with the option to print without asking and leave the thermal printer as the default. From then on the paper comes out when you tap charge, with no dialog at all. What it doesn't do yet is open the cash drawer or cut the paper without a dialog on Android or iPad; that's on the plan, and we'll tell you when it lands.

It's the same till, and that matters

A counter mode that was a separate till would be a new problem: two numbering sequences, two closes, two places to look. This one isn't. What you charge on the tablet is the same receipt, with the same sequential number, in the same reports and with the same close. It shows up in «Today's receipts» straight away, and from there it can be reprinted or resent.

The same rules apply too: if the till isn't available in your country, neither is counter mode. And it charges under the session it was opened with, so if several people take payments in your salon and you want each receipt to say who issued it, have each of them sign in with their own account.

What stays in the dashboard till

On purpose, so the counter screen doesn't fill up: charging an appointment from the calendar, packages, refunds, cash movements, opening and closing the shift, and settings. All of that is one click away in the regular till, and it's explained in close your salon's till in five minutes.

Every payment, with its number

The till needs a connection, and that's on purpose: each receipt is born with its sequential number and its fingerprint in a single operation, on the spot, which is what makes your numbering stand up to an inspection and keeps any receipt from being issued twice. If the connection drops for a moment, you charge as soon as it's back, and the paper can be written by hand in the meantime.
