Look for a POS for your salon and you'll find two things: touchscreen tills that take payments very well and know nothing about your calendar, and salon software with a payments module somebody bolted on later.
The useful question isn't which one has more buttons. It's where the payment lives. Because in a salon a payment never starts from scratch: there was already an appointment, with a service, the person who did it and a price. A POS that doesn't know that makes you type it all again, and that's where the till stops adding up.
What a POS is today, and what you no longer need to buy
POS stands for point of sale: the place where you take payment, issue the receipt and balance the day. For years it was a box with a screen, a printer and a drawer, plus its maintenance contract.
Today what matters is the software. The hardware can be a ten-inch tablet and the receipt printer you already have. ClaudIA's POS runs from the browser on any Android tablet or iPad, on a desktop touchscreen and on Android terminals with a built-in printer, and it installs on the home screen like an app.
What a good salon POS has to do
This is the list worth keeping in front of you when you compare, whether it's ClaudIA or anybody else:
- Charge the appointment, not a loose sale. You open the appointment and the service, who did it and the price are already there.
- Several methods in one payment. Part in cash and part by card is everyday life at any front desk.
- Tips kept apart, so they don't inflate your takings and nobody loses track of whose they were.
- Real packages. A session paid from a package goes on the receipt at zero and is deducted once, even if somebody taps twice.
- A receipt with your name on it, not the software's: printed, over WhatsApp or by email.
- Refunds without touching what was issued. A receipt is never edited; it's corrected with another document, and both stay on file.
- Opening and closing a shift with a cash count. What you started with, what the system expected and what you counted.
- Being legal where you are.
Why it should live inside your calendar
When the POS sits in one program and the calendar in another, every payment gets written twice. What that costs isn't the typing time: it's the payments nobody recorded, the service charged at last year's price and the month-end total that gets waved through because there's no way to cross-check it.
In ClaudIA the POS lives inside the same system that answers your WhatsApp and runs your calendar. The booking ClaudIA closed over WhatsApp at eleven at night gets charged the next day from its own record, in two taps. And because the payment knows who did the work, what each stylist brings in shows up in the reports without cross-checking anything.
The client's history gains too: what was done, what was paid and when, in the same record ClaudIA reads when that person writes again.
At the front desk: the till on a tablet
Charging at the counter isn't closing the till at night: there's somebody in front of you with their card in hand. That's what counter mode is for: the same till, full screen, with tiles for your services, an on-screen numeric keypad and the change worked out when they pay in cash. The receipt goes out on its own through whichever delivery you've set as default.
It's the same till, not another one: same numbering, same reports and the same close. We cover it in full in the till on a tablet.
Cards, on the card machine you already have
The POS doesn't make you switch banks. Cards still go through the terminal you already have; the POS records that payment under its method and balances it at close. So there's no new fee on every sale, and ClaudIA's price stays flat whatever kind of month you have.
Legal in Spain, and in your currency everywhere else
If your salon is in Spain, each receipt goes out as the law requires there: a simplified invoice with your tax number and the VAT broken down, under the Spanish invoicing rules, the Basque Country's own system and the Canary Islands' tax included. A full invoice is issued with the customer's details when they ask for one, and a refund generates its corrective invoice.
Everywhere else it works the same way, with your country's payment methods. If you take two currencies, each one is counted and balanced separately, never added together, and the exchange rate you applied to each payment stays on record.
At the end of the day
You open the shift in the morning by saying what you're starting with. At night you count the cash, type it in and the cash count tells you whether it balances, method by method. A discrepancy doesn't stop you closing: it's recorded with your note, which is what lets you see if it keeps happening. If you want, the day's summary reaches your WhatsApp when you close, and at the end of the month the till report is ready for your accountant: one row per payment, with its method and its currency.
The close, step by step, is in close your salon's till in five minutes. Product stock control stays, for now, in your salon software.
